
Women's Golf finishes fifth at Sonoma State Invite

SANTA ROSA - UC Santa Cruz finished fifth in the Sonoma State Invite held at the Santa Rosa Country Club.
Facing a mostly Division II field, the Banana Slugs competed well as they built their momentum towards the postseason. Overall, UCSC shot a 636 as a team.
Mikaela Paracuelles continued her amazing freshman campaign by finishing seventh with a six-over-150, a season-best score. She compiled five birdies total in the two-day tournament, including three during Tuesday's Second Round.
Alyssa Yee and Riley Birch finished tied for 26th, shooting 19-over-163. Sarah Donovan was 31st with a 166. Gillian Mendoza dropped ten strokes from her first day to finish 35th with a 168.
Sonoma State won the tournament with a 596. Seawolf senior Lexi Nielsen was Medalist with a 2-under-142, including a 67 on the first day before edging Academy of Art's Anahi Servin on a birdie on Day Two's last hole.
Menlo College was second and Dominican was nine strokes back to take third.
This was the last regular-season tournament for the Banana Slugs, who next play in the American Southwest Tournament April 19-20 in Brownwood, Texas.
