Box Score SANTA CRUZ (12-5) – UC Santa Cruz played their fourth game of a ten-game homestand against NCAA Division III opponent Colorado College at Kaiser Permanente Arena. The Banana Slugs outscored the Tigers by sixteen in the first quarter en route to a 80-63 victory.
In the first quarter, the Tigers would gain their only lead at 3-2 on an Anna Fanelli three point play with 8:51 left in the quarter. From that point, the Banana Slugs went on an 18-5 run, capped by an
Ashley Kowack three pointer with 2:33 left in the quarter, to give the Banana Slugs the lead for good at 20-8.
Leading 26-10 at the end of the first quarter, the Banana Slugs would extend their lead in the second. The Banana Slugs would gain their largest lead of the half at 45-23 on an
Amanda Inserra layup with 2:11 left in the half. The Banana Slugs led 45-27 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Tigers would come as close as fourteen on two occasions; the second occasion at 61-47 on a Jayd Sollinger layup with forty-nine seconds left in the quarter. In the fourth quarter however, UC Santa Cruz would gain their largest lead of the ballgame at twenty-three at 80-57 on
Tess Oakley-Stilson's layup with 2:25 left.
Kaylee Murphy had a double-double with a game-high 26 points and 16 rebounds for the Banana Slugs on a career-best 12-24 shooting. Murphy also led the team with 7 assists and 3 blocks. Inserra scored 17, Kowack had 14 and Oakley-Stilson had 12 in the victory.
Rosie Braley had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers (3-4). The Banana Slugs shot 39% (32-82) from the field, 28.6% (6-21) from the three-point line and were 76.9% (10-13) from the free throw line. UC Santa Cruz's defense forced twenty-two turnovers by the Tigers, and they outrebounded Colorado 47-43 and had twenty-six more points in the paint (31-5) than did the Tigers.
