THOUSAND OAKS - At a game in Thousand Oaks, a local boy helped give UC Santa Cruz its biggest win of the season.
Ari Sidman- who prepped at nearby Westlake High- scored the only goal of the game in the 57th minute to give the Banana Slugs a 1-0 win at Cal Lutheran
UCSC broke a three-game losing streak to go to 2-6, while dropping the Kingsmen to the same record.
The teams each took 13 shots, and the Banana Slugs withstood a 13-4 disadvantage in corner kicks to get the win.
After absorbing an early Cal Lutheran attack. the Banana Slugs started to build halfway through the first half. Ari Statler got a shot off in the 25th minute that was saved by CLU goalie Antonio Welch. On the resulting corner, Aidan Durgerian's header went high.
In the second half, UCSC countered after a CLU corner kick and Sidman got on the end of passing from Ben Blackfield and James Allison to score the goal that would be the game-winner.
Gerald Delorie had a career-high seven saves for his first win of the season.
The Banana Slugs next play Friday September 28 when they host old rival Cal State East Bay.
