Big shooting night from Young leads UCSC to 25-point win

SANTA CRUZ - Playing their first home game since December, the UC Santa Cruz women's basketball team wasted no time in refamiliarizing themselves with their surroundings.

Katie Young hit her first six three pointers and UCSC opened with a 28-8 lead in a 70 45 win over Pacific Union.
UCSC improved to 7-12 with their third straight win and dropped the Pioneers to 2-16.
The junior hit 5 threes in the first quarter as the Slug led 28-8 after 10 minutes.  She hit another to open the second to start another 14 7 run that gave UCSC a 42-15 lead before the Pioneers came back to trail 42 21 at halftime. 
UCSC spent the last twenty minutes using the bench to maintain their lead against the outmanned but hard-fighting Pioneers.
Young finished with 20 points and passed Ryanne Ortiz for 5th place on the school's career made-three list with her 104th trey. Jenna Sparks had 14 and CJ Catina finished with 12 to go with 8 assists. Katilin Stephenson had team-highs of 11 rebounds and 3 blocks off the bench.

Faith Williams and Imari Clinton each had 14 points to lead Pacific Union.

The Slugs outrebounded PUC 47-34.
