Box Score

CARSON - Junior Katie Young had her seventh-straight double-digit scoring game to lead UC Santa Cruz to a 66-54 win over Bethesda Saturday afternoon.

"It feels good to get a couple of wins on the road," said head coach Todd Kent after his squad improved to 6-12. Bethesda fell to 1-25 in a game that was very competitive for the first three quarters.

However, with the UCSC lead at seven at 42-35 with under two minutes left in the third, the visitors went on a 22-6 run to lead by 23 (64-41) with 4:02 remaining.

Young finished with a team-high 14 points. CJ Catina had 13 points on 5-12 shooting, while Kim Tom scored 12 and Jenna Sparks added 10. Freshman Bailey Zazueta made her first start of the season a good one, pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds and scoring 8 points on a perfect 4-4 from the field.

Taylor Smalley led Bethesda with 18 points before fouling out and Angela Steel scored 15.

The Banana Slugs return home for a three-game homestand beginning Thursday against Pacific Union.
