Women's Basketball falls short in three-point loss at Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT - UCSC battled back from a fourth-quarter deficit but couldn't tie at the buzzer in a 67-64 loss to Pomona-Pitzer.

The Banana Slugs fall to 4-11 on the year while the Sagehens go to 5-14.

The Sagehens led by as much as 10 with under 2 minutes left before halftime, but Alaina Alvarez hit a three that cut it to 25-18 at halftime. The hosts led by 9 (57-48) with 5:08 left before UCSC chipped away with a 9-0 run and tied it on Kim Tom's three-point play with 3:00 left.

UCSC took a 64 - 61 lead with 1:33 left on CJ Catina's layup, but Pomona closed the game on a 6-0 run, and Tom's three at the buzzer was blocked to let the hosts escape with the win.

Pomona-Pitzer shot a season-high 52.8% (28-53) in field goals compared to UCSC's 24-68 (35.3%).

Katie Young led UCSC with 19 points, including 4-8 on three-pointers to take her to 36-80 (45%) on the season. She now has 88 treys in her career, tying Jenna Chabot for sixth all-time at UCSC. Tom had 16 points and Jenna Sparks had 12 points to go with team-highs 9 rebounds and 2 steals. Emma Godfrey led Pomona-Pitzer with 30 points and 13 rebounds.

UCSC finishes their so Cal weekend at Antelope Valley tomorrow afternoon.
