OAKLAND - It was a shame that the UC-Santa Cruz and Bethany Bible College women's basketball teams both Santa Cruz County schools had to drive all the way to Oakland's Mills College to play Wednesday night. But the Banana Slugs were glad they did, scoring a season-high point total in a 99-55 victory over Bethany in the consolation finals of the Mills Invitational Tournament.
"We're really coming on strong now," said UCSC Coach Brock Tulley, whose team is 5-8 overall. -"We're playing much better as a team."
Shana Margolis scored 29 points and teammate Chris Sinander added 17, both season highs to lead the Banana Slugs. Vicki Priuska and Roz Manson were also in double scoring figures for UCSC with 16 and 14 points, respectively, while Laurie Stapleton had a team-high 15 rebounds.
