LOS ANGELES (3-21) – The Banana Slugs played their third and final match in their Southern California road trip as they took on Occidental College in Los Angeles. The Tigers won every singles doubles match as the Tigers won the match 6-3.
Both teams lost their last match. the Banana Slugs lost 9-0 to Azusa Pacific University in Azusa yesterday while the Tigers lost 6-3 to Pacific University in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The Banana Slugs and the Tigers both won three singles matches. In the #2 singles match between Zoe Brook of UC Santa Cruz and Lucy Malloch of Occidental, Brook won 6-4, 6-2. In the #6 singles match between Amy Leslie of the Banana Slugs and Hannah Munkacsi of the Tigers, Leslie defeated Munkacsi 6-4, 6-2. In the #1 singles match between Islay Fossett of UC Santa Cruz and Samantha Farrell of Occidental, Farrell defeated Fossett 6-3, 6-3. In the #2 singles match between Sylvia Brummitt of the Banana Slugs and Keilani Bonis-Ericksen of the Tigers, Bonis-Ericksen won 6-1, 6-3. In the #5 singles match between Stephanie Graziano of UC Santa Cruz and Andrea Clawson of Occidental, Clawson defeated Graziano 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. The tightest singles match of the day was the #4 singles match between Ashley Brudzinski of the Banana Slugs and Lauren Hutkin of the Tigers. Brudzinski defeated Hutkin 2-6, 7-5, 11-9.
The Tigers won all three doubles matches. In the #2 doubles match between Brudzinski and Graziano of UC Santa Cruz and Nicole Castro and Hutkin of the Tigers, Castro and Hutkin defeated Brudzinski and Graziano 8-3. In the #3 doubles match between Brook and Melanie Waechtler of the Banana Slugs and Clawson and Isabella Korfmann of the Tigers, Clawson and Korfmann defeated Brook and Waechtler 8-2. The tightest doubles match was the #1 doubles match between Brummitt and Fossett of UC Santa Cruz and Bonis-Ericksen and Farrell of Occidental. Bonis-Ericksen and Farrell defeated Brummitt and Fossett 8-4.
