Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
UCSC Women's basketball opened 2015-16 with two wins as they swept their season-opening road trip to southern California.
With their most successful senior class ever graduating, the squad's returners made their transition from bench support to starts perfectly as UCSC opened 2-0 for the third straight year.
In the Friday game, Trina Torres scored ten of her career-high 20 points in the second half as the Slugs rallied for a 69-61 win over Redlands. Tyler Stewart had 15 points on 4 three pointers, all in the second half. Down five at the half, UCSC opened the third on a 13-2 run. UCSC closed out the close game with a 7-8 from the free-throw line, including Torres going 4-4.
On Saturday, UCSC was led by 14 from Lashay Alexander in their 65-57 win at Occidental. Two other Slugs scored in double figures. Freshman Katie Young added 11 and Torres added 10 with a 3-3 day at the line, running her free-throw streak to 13 straight to open the year. Tied after thirty minutes the Slugs pulled ahead by outscoring the Tigers 19-11 in the final quarter.
