Banana Slugs Sweep Cyclones on Senior Day

SANTA CRUZ (10-24) – UC Santa Cruz hosted Mills College on Senior Day at West Field House. The Banana Slugs honored two players that will be graduating this year and they honored them in style as they swept the Cyclones 3-0.
In their last match, the Banana Slugs defeated Chapman University 3-1 on Sunday in Orange while the Cyclones were swept by NAIA member Simpson University 3-0 in Oakland.
In the first set, the Banana Slugs led from the beginning and held the Cyclones to a negative hitting percentage as they won the set 25-6 and took a 1-0 lead in the match. In the second set, the Banana Slugs over two times the number of kills as the Cyclones did and the Banana Slugs won the second 25-10 and extended their lead in the match to 2-0. The third set was played at the much tighter pace with the lead being traded back and forth. In the end, the Banana Slugs won the third set 25-17 and won the match 3-0.
For UC Santa Cruz, Kellie Graves had a match high twelve kills and for Mills, Amber Escobar Meza had nine kills. Sophie Seiberth had a match high eighteen assists for UC Santa Cruz and Miranda Crothers had eleven for Mills. Alison Ota led the Banana Slugs with a match high ten digs and Escobar Meza had eight digs for the Cyclones.
The next match for the Banana Slugs is to be determined as the Great South Athletic Conference will finalize play next weekend and the tournament pairings will be announced thereafter.
