Slugs fall to Menlo in the first home match of the season

Box Score

SANTA CRUZ, CA -- UC Santa Cruz Women's Volleyball loses to Menlo College.  The Slugs lost in four sets with the following scores: 25-18, 13-25, 23-25, 9-25.

Sophomore Outside Hitter Kim Rabbi led the team with 13 kills (.200 pct).  Junior Libero Jessica Peng led the defense with 19 digs while Senior Middle Blocker Helen Milne controlled the net with 5 blocks.  Sophomore Setter Kaitlyne Fisher totaled 30 assists on the match.

The Slugs started the match with great intensity, controlling the momentum of the set with both offense and defense tenacity.  In the second set, their opponents managed to create enough momentum to fight back and even out the match 1-1.  Unfortunately, after a well fought battle in the third set (23-25), the Slugs couldn't maintain and were ultimately worn down by Menlo's quick offensive tempo.

This loss brings their overall record to 6-8 (5-7 DIII).

The Slugs square off at home against Holy Names University on Wednesday, September 26 at 7:00 P.M. in the West Field House.
