9/8/02 Lead by Seniors, Women's Soccer beats Cal Lutheran; opens at 4-0 SANTA CRUZ -- The Women's Soccer team continued its roll to open the season, defeating Cal Lutheran 2-1 on Sunday and bringing their overall record to 4-0. Senior Midfielder Karen Nycz scored the first goal just 5 minutes into the game, and Senior Forward Bridget Baroncini scored in the 70th minute to give UCSC the 2-0 lead. Cal Lutheran would get on the board late with a goal by Lauren Huckleberry in the 79th minute. Baroncini has 2 goals and 2 assists in just 4 games for the Slugs, leading the team with 6 points. Senior Goalkeeper Janice Loper had 8 saves against Cal Lutheran, and now has a 0.75 Goals against average on the season. The team plays its next game at Pacific Oregon University this Friday. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 PM. |
