 UCSC women second

OAKLAND - UCSC's women's basketball team placed second in the Bay Area Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament Saturday, falling to Notre Dame, 86-59, in the championship game at Mills College.

"We started strong and had a good first half," UCSC Coach Duane Garner said, "but we just kind of let it slip away in the second half and lost our intensity."

UCSC, which finished the season 6-14, trailed 39-29 at halftime.

Marcy Harrell had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Sea Lions. Notre Dame's Cynthia Moore, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, had 20 points and 21 rebounds. "She pretty much dominated the game," Garner said.

Harrell and Cory Vyse from UCSC were both selected to the all-tournament team. Vyse had 10 points against Notre Dame.

On Friday in the first round, UCSC defeated Mills, 65-52. "It was a good intense game," Gamer said. "It got us going for the championship game." UCSC was in control at halftime with a 28-17 lead. Harrell had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Teammate Terri McCallam had 14
