TURLOCK - UCSC ran into a powerhouse in Cal-State Stanislaus and the outcome was not surprising. "We were overwhelmed by a much more powerful team and they blew us out early," said UCSC Coach Mark Henry, whose team trailed 51-24 at halftime.
"We played a credible second half to make it semi-respectable." John Saintignon scored a game-high 34 points for UCSC.
"He played a fine game, again," Henry said. Saintignon was 14-of-26 from the field. Henry also praised the play of Lou Rowean, who had 10 points and eight rebounds. "For a 6-1 forward going up against a 6-5 skywalker, he had his best game of the year," Henry said.
The loss was UCSC's fifth in five games this season. "We're still looking for that first victory," Henry said. "We've got a long way to go, but I feel that we played a very good basketball team tonight."
