NOLS Wilderness Medicine Courses

Adventure Rec is proud to host a range of wilderness medicine certification courses in partnership with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). 

NOLS offers wilderness medicine courses that will prepare you to recognize, treat, and prevent injuries and illnesses that are common in the outdoors. You’ll learn NOLS’ industry-leading, data-informed wilderness medicine curriculum and build new skills through hands-on practice scenarios. Adventure Rec-hosted courses occur on the campus of UC Santa Cruz. 

Registration is open to all; university affiliation is not required. Registration occurs directly through NOLS.

Local Logistics

Parking & Getting to the Classroom

We recommend parking in the East Remote Lot (104). This parking lot is free on weekends and holidays. If your course meets on a weekday, parking permit instructions will be provided.

Your class will meet at Stevenson 175

Please arrive at the classroom no later than 7:45am on the first day.

Plan for a 15-minute walk from the East Remote Lot to Stevenson 175

Food

Check out the on-campus dining options hereCowell/Stevenson Dining Hall is nearby, is relatively tasty and accepts credit card. 

Getting to and from town for lunch is possible, but pretty tight in a one-hour break. 

During holidays, on-campus dining options are very limited. Many folks choose to bring their own lunch, coffee and snacks.

Here's your UC Santa Cruz NWS forecast. Winter can bring frosty mornings and heavy rain. Dress accordingly, with layers suitable for being outside in all conditions.

Lodging is not provided. Santa Cruz and the surrounding region has a variety of hotels and camping options. Book early for the most choices.

UC Santa Cruz is a smoke and tobacco-free campus.

Pets are not allowed on campus.
