Welcome to the Inaugural Hollins Cup at the Pasatiempo Golf Club
The Hollins Cup will take place on October 13 and October 14th, bringing together some of the best golfers in the country to compete on one of the most historically significant courses in the United States that was designed by NCGA Hall of Famer Marion Hollins.
Marion Hollins founded Pasatiempo in 1929 and became the first woman to develop world class golf courses, helping create The Women's National Golf and Tennis Club, Cypress Point, and Pasatiempo. A Long Island native, born in 1892, Hollins was a standout golfer who won the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship in 1921. Hollins was denied access to male-dominated clubs in New York so she simply created her own, making the National Women's Golf and Tennis Club in Glen Head, New York, before moving West to help transform the Monterey Peninsula into the golf destination that it is today.
The Hollins Cup stands as more than a competitive tournament for the best of NCAA Division III. The Hollins Cup embodies Hollins' vision for opportunity and access in alignment with the NCAA's emphasis on education, participation, and growth, all core principles of NCAA Division III athletics. UC Santa Cruz is proud to host a tournament that both honors Marion Hollins while celebrating the purest embodiment of amateur competition with some of the best teams in NCAA Division III competing for the love of the sport.
This year's Hollins Cup will feature a field of eight programs, including Nationally Ranked teams No. 1 Emory University, who stand as the reigning NCAA Division III National Champions, No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis, No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer, No. 11 University of Redlands, as well Occidental College, Chapman University, and the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz.
Currently, Pasatiempo allows just one outside tournament in the prestigious Western Intercollegiate that has been hosted by San Jose State since 1947. The Hollins Cup will be just the second outside tournament at Pasatiempo, reinforcing the value and importance of Marion Hollins and what this tournament stands for.
