
Slugs In First After Day One of PCSC Championships

LOS ANGELES, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz men's swim and dive team started the 2026 PCSC Conference Championships on a strong note, ending the day in first place with 228.5 points and an individual title out of Andrew Koika in the 50 free.

- 1000 Free: Michael Fusinati took fifth place with a time of 9:45.79 with Dylan Blietz taking seventh in 9:48.69. Lucas Blietz and Jack West took 10th and 16th, touching the wall in 10:01.58 and 10:41.08.
- 200 IM: The Banana Slugs stacked the 200 IM, putting six swimmers in the Championship Final. Greyson Davies led the way, breaking the program record, previously held be 1996 NCAA Champion and Hall of Fame inductee Matt Humphreys, touching the wall in 1:49.04 for second place. Asher Kates took third in 1:51.82 while Kent Nishida (1:52.46), Sebastian Santiago (1:52.85), Jude Robinson (1:53.31), and Kaleb Wolfinger (1:53.67) took fourth, sixth, seventh, and eighth.
- 50 Free: Andrew Koika and Kyle Reitan went 1-2 in the 50 free with Koika earning the team's first individual title with a time of 20.14s while Reitan touched in 20.27s. JJ Stoen and Charlie Hussain took fourth and eighth with times of 20.55s and 20.95s. Bryson Schmid and Massimo Reyna took ninth and 13th in the consolation final, touching the wall in 20.80s and 21.09s.
- 800 Free Relay: The UCSC A relay team capped off the day with a second place finish, combining for a time of 6:44.13.
- 1 Meter Dive: Eoin Hempenstall led UCSC in the 1m dive prelims with 384.85 points while Charlie Short and Trevor Masters finished the day in fifth and sixth.
