Slugs Trounce Sunbirds in First Dual of 2026

FRESNO, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz women's swim and dive team opened the new year with a 210-45 victory over the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds in a Saturday dual meet. The Banana Slugs were dominant on their first dual of 2026, winning 13 of the 14 events. UC Santa Cruz will be back in action on January 16th when they host CSU Bakersfield.
 
In The Results:
  • 400 Medley Relay: The UCSC A team of Siena Ancona, Namya Sarup, Kirsten Boyle, and Katy Hawk won the event with a time of 4:00.93.
  • 1000 Free: Ruby Sanchez won the 1000 free with an 11:13.58 with Piper Strickler and Erin Gidley taking second and third.
  • 200 Free: Katy Hawk was the standout for UCSC, winning the 200 free with a time of 1:57.71 while Maya Garcia-Hale and Heather O'Brien took second and third.
  • 100 Back: Siena Ancona won the 100 back with a time of 1:00.45, narrowly out touching teammate Medha Raghuraman who took second in 1:00.62.
  • 100 Breast: Namya Sarup won the event in 1:06.92 while Maya Chan and Lily Wolfinger took second and third.
  • 50 Free: Fiona Lei took second overall with a time of 25.24 seconds while Zoe Ma and Tessa Garvey Miller took third and fourth in the event.
  • 200 Fly: Kirsten Boyle and Maya Garcia-Hale took first and second in the 200 fly with Boyle touching the wall in 2:13.67.
  • 200 Back: The Slugs were the only competitors in the 200 back, going 1-2-3 with Siena Ancona earning the victory in 2:12.68.
  • 100 Free: Katy Hawk earned the first place finish in the 100 free with a time of 53.94s while Keaton Canaday took third in 55.14s.
  • 200 Breast: Maya Chan took first place with a time of 2:25.73 while Namya Sarup and Lily Wolfinger took second and third.
  • 500 Free: Heather O'Brien won the 500 free with a time of 5:25.18 while Erin Gidley and Piper Strickler took second and third overall.
  • 100 Fly: Kirsten Boyle was the top finisher in the 100 fly, recording the only sub one minute time with a 59.15s while Siena Ancona and Fiona Lei took second and third.
  • 400 IM: Lily Wolfinger took first place with a time of 4:49.51 with Sadie Breen and Namya Sarup taking second and third place.
  • 200 Free Relay: UCSC closed out the day with a victory in the 200 free relay as Katy Hawk, Phoebe Jaggers, Fiona Lei, and Medga Raghuraman combined for a time of 1:40.71.
