Six Banana Slugs Earn Academic All-District Honors From CSC

SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – Six Banana Slugs landed a spot on this year's Academic All-District Team, as announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday afternoon. On the men's side, UC Santa Cruz saw Joseph Espy, Zino Okah, Zach Granberry, and Caden Breznikar while Jenna Gorton and Alyssa Jackson earned Academic All-District honors on the women's side. The four All-District honors add up to 16 selections in the history of the award for UC Santa Cruz men's basketball while the two honors add up to 10th selections in history for women's basketball.
 
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
Notably, this is the Second Academic All-District honor for both Caden Breznikar and Joseph Espy as the duo earned honors in the 2023-24 season. Espy led the way for UCSC during the season, earning First Team All-Conference honors after averaging 17 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game. Okah earned Second Team honors with 12.6ppg while Granberry was awarded the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award by the C2C.
 
Gorton earned Second Team All-Conference honors for the Slugs, averaging 9.5 points per game with 7.9 rebounds per game as well. Jackson was also a key contributor for UCSC, starting all 25 games, averaging 8.7 points per game.
