RIVERSIDE, Ca. - The UC Santa Cruz women's golf team placed 4th at the West Coast Classic at Victoria Club after the last two days of play.Â
Tournament Highlights
The Banana Slugs had a young squad competing in this tournament, with everyone but sophomore Elana McGrew being first years. Age was not a downside for the Banana Slugs as they placed 4th with a team score of 668 (340-328) behind Embry-Riddle (AZ), Pomona-Pitzer, and Menlo College, who took first, second, and third, respectively.Â
The Slugs were led by freshman Olivia Lew, who shot two 77s in the first and second round, finishing in a tie for fourth on the individual leaderboard.
Samantha Shaw shot an 80 in the first round and a 79 to place herself in standalone 11th place. Adeline Truong shot a 17 over 89 and 12 over 84 to end in 26th. Alyssa Castellanos shot a 22 over 94 in the first round and a 16 over 88 to finish in a tie for 31st. Elana McGrew shot 22 over in the first round and a 21 over to end in 35th overall.Â
The Banana Slugs will be back in action on March 6th through the 9th at the Westbrooke Invitational Tournament.
