REDDING, CA – UC Santa Cruz women's basketball fell short in a 65-56 loss to Simpson University on Tuesday at the James M. Grant Center. The Banana Slugs held the lead at several points but couldn't hold off a late push by the Red Hawks in the fourth quarter.
How It Happened
Jenna Gorton led UCSC with 14 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, delivering key plays throughout the game.
Alyssa Jackson added 12 points, knocking down four three-pointers, while
Claire Galbo contributed eight points and six rebounds.
Emilie Ngo was active on both ends, finishing with seven points, three assists, and two steals.
The Banana Slugs made their most significant impact in the third quarter, outscoring Simpson 20-6 behind strong perimeter shooting and defensive pressure. UCSC forced 16 turnovers in the game and converted them into 16 points, securing 31 rebounds, including 12 on the offensive glass.
UCSC couldn't close the game in the final stretch despite their efforts. They will look to bounce back in their next matchup against California Tribal College on Saturday, February 15th, at West Field House. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
