
Slugs Fall to Loggers in Friday Tilt

TACOMA, Wa. – The UC Santa Cruz women's basketball team fell 60-46 to the Puget Sound Loggers on Friday evening. Alyssa Jackson and Claire Galbo both tallied 14 points on the night while Emilie Ngo added 10 points while Danielle Tymer grabbed 10 boards. UC Santa Cruz is now 6-8 on the season and will be back in action on Dec. 21 at noon when they travel to Pacific Lutheran.

How It Happened
UCSC jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead to start the game with jumpers from Emilie Ngo and Alyssa Jackson, later increasing the gap to 10-3 with threes from Jackson and Claire Galbo. From there, the Loggers fought back, outscoring UCSC 13-1 to close out the quarter with a 16-11 lead.
The Banana Slugs pulled within four points after a three from Danielle Tyner in the second quarter, trailing 18-14 but Puget Sound charged forward with an 8-0 run to extend their lead to double digits at 26-14. The Slugs held Puget Sound to six points for the rest of the quarter while adding nine of their own, cutting the deficit to single digits at 32-23 heading into the halftime break.

UC Santa Cruz played well out of the break as Alyssa Jackson hit a three before Emilie Ngo added a jumper to cut the lead to 34-28 with 8:45 left in the quarter. A quick 5-0 run out Puget Sound back up by 11 but a Jackson three and Galbo layup cut the gap to six points once again, this time at 39-33 with 5:22 remaining in the third. Puget Sound displayed strong shooting down the stretch, extending their lead to 49-38 heading into the fourth.

UCSC struggled in the fourth, closing the gap to seven points with back to back buckets by Ngo before the Loggers closed out the contest on an 11-4 run to earn the 60-46 victory.
