
Banana Slugs Battle East Bay in Saturday Dual

HAYWARD, Ca. - The UC Santa Cruz women's swim and dive team showed impressive depth in their road dual meet against Cal State East Bay on Saturday. The Banana Slugs earned multiple top finishes, highlighted by Katy Hawk's victories in both the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle, as well as strong efforts from Medha Raghuraman, Namya Sarup, Fiona Lei, and Heather O'Brien among others. Despite falling 172–89 in the team standings, UCSC battled well will multiple strong performances on the day.

Event Highlights
400 Medley Relay – The team of Medha Raghuraman, Sadie Breen, Kirsten Boyle, and Katy Hawk was UCSC's top quartet, finishing second in 3:55.28. The B squad of Siena Ancona, Lily Wolfinger, Fiona Lei, and Keaton Canaday also turned in a solid 4:00.90.
1000 Freestyle – Piper Stickler led the Slugs with a 10:58.33 for fourth place, followed by Hannah Love in 11:16.93.
200 Freestyle – Katy Hawk was the top performer for UCSC, earning the win in 1:54.35. Heather O'Brien also impressed, taking third at 1:55.80, while Keaton Canaday added a 1:58.07 finish.
100 Backstroke – Medha Raghuraman paced UCSC with a 58.82 for second, narrowly ahead of Maddy Stein (59.07) and Kaitlyn Armstrong (59.32), as the Slugs swept places 2–4.
100 Breaststroke – Namya Sarup led the way with 1:06.49 for third overall. Sadie Breen (1:06.69) and Lily Wolfinger (1:06.73) followed close behind in one of the tightest races of the meet.
200 Butterfly – Maya Garcia-Hale claimed third with a 2:09.46, and Gretta Bellin (2:11.68) and Kirsten Boyle (2:16.04) provided valuable depth.
50 Freestyle – Fiona Lei took second in 24.60 and Phoebe Jaggers placed third in 24.67, while Tessa Garvey Miller added a 24.91 for fifth.
100 Freestyle – Katy Hawk captured her second win of the day with a 53.14. Keaton Canaday followed in 53.90 for a 1-2 UCSC finish. Tessa Garvey Miller also swam strong at 55.45.
200 Backstroke – Hannah Love led the Slugs with a 2:07.11 for second place, while Siena Ancona (2:12.45) and Sophia Saldana (2:17.34) rounded out a steady group.
200 Breaststroke – Namya Sarup earned runner-up honors in 2:24.30, backed by Maya Chan (2:25.99) and Kirsten Boyle (2:26.69).
500 Freestyle – Heather O'Brien clocked 5:10.74 to finish third, with Maya Garcia-Hale right behind at 5:12.23 and Paiten Tobey in 5:18.81.
100 Butterfly – Fiona Lei and Kirsten Boyle went 4-5 for UCSC with times of 58.79 and 58.81, respectively. Maya Chan also contributed a 1:00.39 finish.
400 Individual Medley – Lily Wolfinger led UCSC with a 4:46.15 for fourth, while Sadie Breen (4:49.05) and Jolie Mosack (5:14.10) rounded out the group.
200 Freestyle Relay – The A team of Katy Hawk, Fiona Lei, Tessa Garvey Miller, and Phoebe Jaggers closed the meet with a 1:39.08 for second place. The B squad of Jadyn Chaffins, Keaton Canaday, Heather O'Brien, and Kaitlyn Armstrong added a 1:41.51 for fourth.
