FRESNO, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz women's soccer team fell to 4-8-2 on the year with a 3-1 loss to the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds on Wednesday evening. The Banana Slugs will be back in action on Nov. 6 as they get set to start the C2C Women's Soccer Conference Tournament. The Banana Slugs outshot the Sunbirds 14-7 in the contest but both team put five shots on frame with FPU finding the back of the net twice in the first half and once more in the second half while UCSC saw a late goal from
Camille Anneet.
How It Happened
The two teams traded shots in the early going with the Banana Slugs and Sunbirds both putting up two shots in the opening 10 minutes.
Sydney Boyd put her attempt on frame in the 9th minute while
Susanaitzel Juarez-Mancera put another attempt on goal in the 14th minute. Fresno Pacific was able to find the back of the net in the 18th minute and again just moments later in the 20th minute to take an early 2-0 lead. UCSC responded with four more shots in the half but couldn't find the back of the net as FPU took their 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
Out of the break, Fresno Pacific added an insurance goal in the 49th minute to take a convincing 3-0 lead. The Banana Slugs attempted to counter, outshooting FPU 7-2 in the half but only managed to connect once in the 90th minute.
Sydney Boyd connected with
Camille Anneet who struck the back of the net, putting UCSC on the board with 42 seconds remaining in the game. Unfortunately, the late goal was not enough as FPU earned the 3-1 victory.
