Banana Slugs Fall to Jessup in 1-0 Midweek Contest

ROCKLIN, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 match to Jessup on Wednesday afternoon. UCSC outshot Jessup 8-6 overall but the Warriors managed to score in the 63rd minute to defeat the Banana Slugs 1-0. UC Santa Cruz is now 8-6-1 on the year and will return home on November 2 at 1:00 p.m. to host Cal Maritime Academy for senior day.

How It Happened
The Banana Slugs were knocking on the door early as Kotetsu Horike put a shot on goal just 2:15 into the game. UC Santa Cruz continued to pressure, dominating in the offensive end for nearly the entire first half with a corner kick in the 18th minute leading to shots from Michael Braun, Zander Crawford, and Jackson Chandler. UC Santa Cruz saw their best chance of the contest come in the 29th minute when a foul in the box gave the Slugs a penalty kick. Unfortunately, the Warriors were able to make the save to keep UCSC off the board. UC Santa Cruz earned back to back corners after the penalty kick and recorded one more shot in the half while holding Jessup to just one shot in the 43rd minute that was wide of the cage, sending the two teams tied at 0-0 heading into halftime.

In the second half, Jessup took a shot that forced Tobias Jacobson-Bell to make a save just 1:47 after the break. Jessup later found the back of the net, striking in the 63rd minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Warriors managed to limit UCSC's offensive chances, holding the Slugs to just two shots in the half while taking five of their own as they took the 1-0 win over UCSC.
