COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – UC Santa Cruz men's basketball battled throughout but fell to the University of St. Thomas 87-73 in a competitive matchup at Reid Arena. The Banana Slugs kept the game close in the first half, taking a 40-37 lead into halftime, but struggled to maintain their momentum late.
How It Happened
Joe Espy led the way for the Banana Slugs with 20 points and seven rebounds, going 8-for-11 from the free-throw line.
Zino Okah added 19 points, six rebounds, and two blocks, showcasing his two-way impact.
Andrew Ferrara-Jones contributed 10 points and seven rebounds, while
Miles Burrows and
Hunter Kennedy provided a spark off the bench, combining for 13 points and four rebounds.
UCSC shot 46.4% from the field overall and connected on 10 three-pointers. The Banana Slugs also collected 36 rebounds, including nine on the offensive end, while forcing eight turnovers. Despite their efforts, UCSC couldn't find the shots they needed in the closing minutes.
The Banana Slugs will return to action against Colorado College on Monday, January 6th.
