
Prather Steps Down From Role Within Athletics & Recreation

SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – Courtnie Prather, Senior Associate Director of Athletics & Recreation at the University of California, Santa Cruz, has announced her resignation, effective January 13, 2025. Over the course of her five-year tenure, Prather has made an indelible impact on the university through her innovative programming and steadfast dedication to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the department and beyond. Â
Prather joined UC Santa Cruz in 2019 as the Associate Director of Athletics & Recreation, bringing with her nearly two decades of experience in collegiate athletics and recreation management. In 2023, she was appointed Interim Director, where she oversaw 17 NCAA Division III athletic teams and seven recreation units. Â
Prather was the recipient of the NCAA Division III LGTQ OneTeam Administrator of the Year Award in 2023. Â
Prather's tenure has also been marked by significant contributions to both campus and national committees, including: Â
·      NCAA Division III LGBTQ OneTeam Committee Member Â
·      Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Council Member Â
·      UC Santa Cruz Campus Strategic Planning Committee Member Â
·      University of California Office of the President NCAA TIX Framework Group Â
Reflecting on her time at UC Santa Cruz, Prather shared, "It has been an honor to serve this incredible university and its vibrant community. Together, we have achieved milestones that will continue to shape the future of Banana Slugs Athletics & Recreation. I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished and deeply grateful for the opportunity to lead such transformative work." Â
