SANTA CRUZ, CA– The UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs delivered a commanding 9-0 victory over Cal Maritime on Tuesday afternoon at home. An overwhelming display of offense and control throughout the match helped UCSC secure the win and improve their season record to 3-2-3.
How It Happened
UC Santa Cruz took control early in the first half, with
Tiana Stouch opening the scoring in the 19th minute. Just a minute later,
Chelyn Ackerman doubled the lead with a goal assisted by
Erin Freeman. Freeman continued her impressive performance, scoring a goal of her own in the 26th minute, assisted by Ackerman. The Banana Slugs dominated possession throughout the first half, registering 18 shots, 11 of which were on target, and drawing two corners and three free kicks.
The second half was just as commanding for UCSC, with their defense playing a key role in keeping the ball in the opponent's half for most of the half.
Camille Anneet scored an out-of-box goal, finding the top right corner in the 65th minute, followed quickly by two more from
Cadence Fisher and
Amelia Fung in the 66th and 67th minute.
Erin Freeman netted her second goal in the 85th minute, assisted by
Amaya Espardinez, and Fisher scored again in the 87th minute with help from
Tatiana Fernandez. UCSC capped off the scoring in dramatic fashion, as goalkeeper
Tyler Beaman converted a penalty in the final minute to secure the 9-0 win.
