SANTA CRUZ, CA. – The UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs won 2-1 at home against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday afternoon, snapping the Pioneers unbeaten streak this season. UCSC controlled the match with dominant possession and shot opportunities, outshooting UW-Platteville 25-4. With the victory, the Slugs improve their season record to 4-2-3.
How It Happened
UCSC set the tone early, controlling the first half and preventing Wisconsin-Platteville from registering a single shot. The Banana Slugs generated plenty of offensive pressure, taking 13 shots on target and drawing eight corners, but they couldn't find the back of the net before halftime.
The action intensified in the second half. UCSC broke the deadlock in the 50th minute with a goal by
Sydney Boyd, assisted by
Camille Anneet. Just two minutes later, Wisconsin-Platteville equalized. However, the Banana Slugs continued to apply pressure, and it paid off in the 77th minute when
Emily De Los Santos scored the game-winning goal, assisted by Boyd. UCSC's defense remained strong, with Goalkeeper
Mia Linville making three saves to preserve the victory.
