Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

UC Santa Cruz Falls to No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer in Southern California

CLAREMONT, Ca. – The UC Santa Cruz women's soccer fell to the No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 3-0 on Thursday night. With the loss, the Slugs are now 2-2-2 on the season. Despite the score, the Slugs fought for a full 90 minutes, pressuring the Sagehens all contest with a well-balanced attack and aggressive play style to limit Sagehen opportunities. The Slugs and Sagehens were even at 10 shots each with Pomona-Pitzer putting six on frame while the Slugs put four on frame. UC Santa Cruz will continue their road trip with a match against the CMS Athenas on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

How It Happened
The Slugs fell behind early as Pomona-Pitzer struck the back of the net in the fourth minute of the contest with the game's first shot of the night. The Slugs countered with two shots of their own, but the first half settled into a possession battle until UCSC managed to put two shots on goal in the final six minutes of the action to end the first half.

The Slugs picked up right where they left off to start the second half, pressuring the Sagehens backline as they trapped them in the attacking third while fighting to create opportunities. UC Santa Cruz saw some of their best opportunities come in the 65th, 70th and 72nd minute as the Slugs offense began to pressure the Sagehens goalie. UCSC put two shots on frame forcing the Sagehens keeper to make a save and later had Sydney Boyd ring one off the woodwork, narrowly missing the equalizer as the team broke down the strong defensive play from Pomona-Pitzer.

The Sagehens were able to counter and add two insurance goals with one in the 77th minute and one in the 80th minute to seal the 3-0 victory over UC Santa Cruz on Thursday night.
