Banana Slugs Shutout Tigers in Season Opener

MARSHALL, Tx. – The UC Santa Cruz women's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory over the ETBU Tigers on opening day in Texas. UC Santa Cruz had three difference goal scorers with Camille Anneet, Cassidy Segrell, and Tiana Stouch all finding the back of the net. Overall, the Banana Slugs outshot the Tigers 25-5 with a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. UCSC also earned an 8-2 advantage on corners. The Slugs will continue their Texas road trip with a match against NCAA Division III UT Dallas on Sunday at 12:00 pm PT / 2:00 pm CT.

How It Happened
The Slugs wasted zero time against the Tigers, scoring the game's first goal in the opening two minutes of action with Camille Anneet striking the back of the net to make it 1-0 early. UC Santa Cruz kept the pressure on for much of the first half and found their second goal of the contest in the 28th minute, this time off the foot of Cassidy Segrell to make it 2-0. The Slugs were able to record six more shots in the first half, working to a 12-4 advantage in shots with a two goal lead at the halftime break.

Much like the first half, the Slugs wasted no time in the opening five minutes of action after the break. Tiana Stouch was able to score in the 49th minute to give the Banana Slugs a convincing 3-0 lead. UC Santa Cruz held the Tigers to just 1 shot in the second half while shooting 13 of their own. ETBU's best chances came in the first half with two shots on goal but Mia Linville was there to make both saves and record the shutout for UC Santa Cruz on opening day.

As mentioned, the Slugs will be back in action Sunday at noon Pacific Time when they travel to Richardson, Tx. to take on UT Dallas.
