How It Happened
The Slugs and Comets played a quiet opening 10 minutes of action in Richardson, Tx. before UCSC saw Chelyn Ackerman put a shot on goal to the bottom right side but UT Dallas managed to make the save and counter with a shot of their own in the 17th minute. Much of the first half was controlled by the Slugs as they outshot UTD 11-4 with Amelia Fung putting three more shots on goal with Tatiana Fernandez also forcing the Comets keeper to stay active between the pipes.

The Comets took the first shot in the second half, just 36 seconds after the whistle but UC Santa Cruz responded 36 seconds with a shot of their own. Both teams traded attacks with UCSC putting three shots on goal in the span of seven minutes with Chelyn Ackerman and Tatiana Fernandez both placing low shots on goal. After Ackerman's shot in the 59th minute, the Comets went on the counterattack and managed to break through in the 60th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

The Slugs fought to the final whistle, pressuring the Comets defense with 12 more shots after the UTD goal before Kristi Truong found the equalizer. Cassidy Segrell connected with Truong in the 89th minute as Truong struck the back of the net, giving the Banana Slugs the late game equalizer they were looking for to end the game in a 1-1 draw with the Comets.
