ATHERTON (4-10)
– UC Santa Cruz men's tennis started a three-match road trip as they took on NAIA member Menlo College in Atherton. The Oaks defeated the Banana Slugs 7-0.
The teams agreed under NAIA rules to have the three doubles matches count as one point. The Oaks won two doubles matches and the Banana Slugs won one, with
Ryan Lam and
Benjamin Wang winning 6-4 at #2. It was the sixth match in a row won by the duo this season. The Oaks, however, won all six singles matches in straight sets.
"I'm grateful for the challenges that we've had over our last few matches," said captain
Andrew Tjoa. "There's a lot to learn from playing tough D1 and NAIA schools, hopefully we'll be able to implement and execute well as we return to D3 competition. While we're not satisfied with our results, we're taking them in stride as we're gearing up for C2C Championship. I know that every match is getting us closer to our goal bringing home a conference championship."
The Banana Slugs will travel to Texas to continue their road trip, starting Saturday with seventh-ranked Trinity University in San Antonio.
