ORANGE (3-29) In an exciting back-and-forth dual match, 21st-ranked UC Santa Cruz fell 6-3 at Chapman on Friday afternoon.
The Banana Slugs (9-4) dropped their first match of the spring break roadtrip.
UC Santa Cruz tied the match at 1-all when doubles duo
Sara Beckman and
Natalie Sprenger beat Chapman's top duo 8-4. The Panthers won the next doubles match to lead 2-1 at the start of singles.
Beckman and
Chloe Wu both won their singles matches in straight sets to give the Banana Slugs a 3-2 lead. However, each of the other four singles matches went to either a tiebreaker or a third set. The host Panthers were able to survive all four for the comeback win.
The Banana Slugs close the road trip with a make-up match Saturday at Occidental.
