Senior Tanner Rowland has been named to the NCAA DIII Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Rowland was nominated after attending the last NCAA Conference in Indianapolis as a student representative,Â
"The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee represents the student-athlete voice in the Division III governance structure by reviewing legislation, identifying significant student-athlete issues, implementing national student-athlete-based initiatives, encouraging community outreach, and enhancing Division III student-athlete involvement. The SAAC is also the committee that is primarily responsible for coordinating the division's nationwide partnership with Special Olympics." "We're all very excited about Tanner being selected to the National DIII Committee. Tanner is an exemplary student-athlete who possesses all of the required skills to make her a great board member. She has made the entire Slugs tennis program proud and she's a joy to coach," explained interim Women's Tennis Coach Ross Pytko.Â
When asked about what the appointment meant to her, Rowland explained "I am so grateful and excited to have been selected to represent the Coast-to-Coast Conference as an Associate Member of National DIII SAAC. My time as a member of UCSC's chapter of SAAC for the past three years, and Co-President for the 2023-2024 school year, has taught me about the power the student-athlete voice has in cultivating real change in university athletics. I cannot wait to begin this part of my journey and involvement in SAAC and to learn about the role National DIII SAAC plays in elevating the direction of the student-athlete experience."
