ORANGE, CA - The UC Santa Cruz women's soccer team earn a 2-0 victory against the Chapman Panthers this morning with both goals coming in the first half. The Banana Slugs had eight shot attempts and three shots on goal, resulting in two successful scores while Chapman took 11 shots with three on goal.
Amanda Scott and
Chelyn Ackerman were the goal scorers for UCSC, both finding the back of the net in the opening 20 minutes while
Ainsley Gove played all 90 minutes in goal, making three saves to preserve the shutout for the Banana Slugs. With the win, the Slugs are now 5-2-4 on the season and will remain in Southern California for tomorrow's contest against the 2023 National Champions California Lutheran University at 11:00 a.m.
How It Happened
The Slugs started the game off strong with
Amanda Scott scoring a goal to the upper left corner in the 9th minute. Play continued with a few shot attempts from Chapman, but they were unable to score with a save from
Ainsley Gove. In the fifteenth minute, UC Santa Cruz's
Chelyn Ackerman scored a second goal to the top left corner, putting the Slugs up 2-0 early in the contest. UC Santa Cruz kept up the pressure and the Panthers were unable to score, ending the first half with a score of 2-0.

Sydney Boyd trying for two. Chapman could not catch a break from UC Santa Cruz as
Camille Anneet and
Tiana Stouch also took shot attempts. Strong defense and heavy pressure from the Slugs offense kept Chapman off the board, resulting in a 2-0 victory for UC Santa Cruz.
