UC Santa Cruz won their first game of the season 2-0 over Pacific (Oregon) to open the UCSC Tournament.
UC Santa Cruz (1-2) outshot the Boxers 15-2, including 9-0 in the first half. The hosts capitalized on their first shot of the game after
Luca Bravo converted a cross from
Emanuel Tames-Kaimowitz in the third minute.
Jackson Chandler had good chances in the 15th and 22nd minutes. The first went wide, and the second was smothered by the Boxers' goalie for a save.
The Banana Slugs doubled their lead 3:46 into the second half when
Adrian Jacobs half-volleyed a cross from
Ishaan Das off a corner. The offense didn't let up, and UC Santa Cruz almost added another with under 5:00 to play but
Adrian Jacobs and
Soren Groessl both had their attempts saved.
Kian Van der Meer only had to make one save for his first career shutout. The Banana Slugs close the tournament on Sunday morning when they play Whitworth.
