Sydney Boyd scored her first career hat-trick as UC Santa Cruz overwhelmed Lincoln 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Banana Slugs improved to 5-2-2 after their fourth consecutive win.
Â
Boyd had the opening assist in the 14th minute to
Amaya Espardinez, who coolly finished a 1-on-1 against the Lincoln goalkeeper. Boyd scored her first goal 2:26 later off a pass from
Amanda Scott. Boyd made it 3-0 less than seven minutes before halftime after she floated her own rebound into the net.
Â
It took less than three minutes into the second half for Boyd to complete the hat-trick after
Kristi Truong's pass left Boyd 1-on-1 with the goalie before Boyd tapped a right foot shot past her. The Banana Slugs had several more chances, including Boyd's one touch in the 65th that went off the upright.
Chelyn Ackerman finished the scoring with under eight minutes left after
Susanaitzel Juarez-Mancera sprung her free, and Ackerman converted after a 20-yard run to the goal.
Lincoln's best chance came in the 54th minute, but reserve goalkeeper
Mia Linville got the save in their college debut. UC Santa Cruz finished with a 25-6 shot advantage. Starting goalkeeper
Makenna Curtis had two saves in the first half.
"I'm really happy we were able to put away so many goals," Boyd said. "I think we had some creative play today. Super proud of Amaya who scored her first collegiate goal."
UC Santa Cruz takes the week off before they play their next game Monday October 9th against Pacific Union.
