COLORADO SPRINGS– UC Santa Cruz men's soccer team faced off against Colorado College, putting on a spirited performance despite ultimately falling 2-0.
While the final score didn't go in favor of UC Santa Cruz, their performance highlighted their potential and determination.
UC Santa Cruz started the game with high energy, dominating possession early on. In the 10th minute Derek Uemura unleashed a powerful shot, signaling UC Santa Cruz's offensive intent. This early pressure set the tone for a competitive first half. In the 17th minute, Adrian Jacobs fired another shot that resulted in a corner for UC Santa Cruz, demonstrating their eagerness to create goal-scoring opportunities. The Banana Slugs continued their offensive onslaught with two shots from Caleb Lee and Jackson Chandler in the 24th minute, keeping the pressure on Colorado College's defense. Kian Van der Meer, the Banana Slugs's reliable goalkeeper, made two crucial saves in the 33rd minute, keeping the scoreboard level.
As the first half unfolded, UC Santa Cruz remained strong, showcasing their attacking prowess while solidifying their defense to shut down Colorado College. The Banana Slugs outshot their opponents 5-4, reflecting their dominance during this period.
The second half saw Colorado College pulling ahead with a goal in the 64th minute and a second in the 80th after two consecutive saves from Van der Meer, bringing his total saves to five. Tyler Allred registered two on target shots in the second half. Despite their relentless efforts, UC Santa Cruz couldn't find the back of the net.
The Banana Slugs return home to play Lincoln University on Tuesday as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.
