SAN FRANCISCO- UC Santa Cruz scored first, but settled for a draw against Academy of Art University at the Presidio in San Francisco.
The Banana Slugs (2-2-1) outshot their Division II opposition 15-12 on the day and had a 5-4 advantage in corners.

Max Beldner headed in
Tyler Allred's corner kick in the 23rd minute. That was enough to keep the Banana Slugs up at halftime.
The lead didn't hast long in the second half, as the host Urban Knights answered in the 49th minute to tie the game. The Banana Slugs then pressed and got many good looks and counter attacks looking for another goal.Â
Soren Groessl almost had the game winner in the 68th minute, but his shot outside the box was saved. Two minutes later,
Torin Volkamer also had a great opportunity, but it was blocked out for a corner kick.
Although the Banana Slugs had more chances in the second half, the Urban Knights almost stole it at the end with a shot with 15 seconds left. The attempt however went well over the bar as the clock ran out.
Kian Van der Meer finished with four saves in goal.
UC Santa Cruz plays another NCAA Division II opponent next when they host Cal State East Bay on Sunday afternoon.
