Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer falls 2-1 to CSU East Bay

Playing their second Division II opponent of the weekend, UC Santa Cruz grabbed a goal in the second half, but couldn't find the equalizer in a 2-1 loss to Cal State East Bay on Sunday afternoon.
UC Santa Cruz went to 2-3-1 on the season.

The Banana Slugs trailed 2-0 at the half, but opened the second half with better possession looking to score. Substitute Soren Groessl had a great opportunity four and a half minutes after the restart, but the Pioneers pushed it out for a corner. Then came a flurry of corners with three in the 60th minute that the visitors eventually pushed out. The Banana Slugs finally got on the board with less that 25 minutes left when Torin Volkamer sent a cross from the left that Furio Jacomini sent into the net on a slide from point blank range. It was Jacomini's first goal of the year.

The game opened up after as both teams pressed for chances. Tyler Allred almost tied it with under two minutes left but his shot was deflected out for a corner. East Bay then raced down the field to kill time and escape with the win.
Both teams had 12 shots in the contest, but UC Santa Cruz had a 10-3 advantage in the second half. The Banana Slugs had seven corners to East Bay's five, with a 6-1 advantage in the second half. Kian Van der Meer and Chris Jamrok split time in goal with each getting a save.

The Banana Slugs go on the road next for two games in Colorado Springs, starting Friday morning against nationally-ranked Christopher Newport.
