Chelyn Ackerman scored her first career goal, but Whitworth pulled one back in the second half and both schools shared the spoils in a 1-1 tie.

After
Amanda Scott got a steal at midfield, she raced ahead and found
Sydney Boyd. Boyd then fed Ackerman for a blast from outside the box for the opening score in the 24th minute. Scott almost doubled the lead five minutes later, but had two straight shots saved by the Whitworth goalkeeper.
The Pirates tied it however ten minutes into the second half after a penalty shot. The Banana Slugs had the last good chance with under seven minutes left.
Camille Anneet got on the end of Boyd's pass from the right, but the header went just over the bar.
Overall, UC Santa Cruz had a 20-9 shot advantage in the contest, including 10-3 shots on goal.Â
Makenna Curtis had two saves in her first complete game of the year. The Banana Slugs finish the Northwest roadtrip on Tuesday when they face Puget Sound.
