Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer defeated 2-1 to close roadtrip

TACOMA- Sydney Boyd's first half penalty tied the game, but Puget Sound answered in the second half for a 2-1 win over the Banana Slugs.
UC Santa Cruz finished their season opening five-game roadtrip with a 1-2-2 record.

After the Loggers got on the board first in the 25th minute, the Banana Slugs responded with 14 seconds left in the first half on a penalty after Susanaitzel Juarez-Mancera was taken down inside the box. Boyd blasted it to the top corner to tie the game. Boyd almost scored again right at the halftime horn after the Banana Slugs stole the ball, but her shot was pushed wide to leave it 1-1 at the break.

UC Santa Cruz pushed the attack in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Eissa Quinones's shot was cleared by the goalkeeper. In the 63rd minute, Amanda Scott got free for a one-on-one, but the close range shot was pushed out for a corner.

The visitors thought they grabbed the lead in the 73rd minute, but the goal was waved off for offside. A minute later, Puget Sound found the net on a counter to take a 2-1 lead. UC Santa Cruz controlled possession looking for an equalizer and had a flurry of chances after an 85th minute corner kick, but the last attempt was wide right. The Banana Slugs's last good chance came in the 89th minute, but Scott's attempt from the edge of the box went high.

UC Santa Cruz had a slight advantage in both shots (12-11) and corners (5-4). The Banana Slugs return to Santa Cruz for their home opener Saturday the 16th against The Master's University.
