CORAL SPRINGS, FL- UC Santa Cruz golfers Gillian Mendoza and Mikaela Paracuelles were named to the Division III All-American Scholar Team by the Women's Golf Coaches Association on Thursday.
Mendoza, a graduating Senior majoring in Human Bio, was honored for the fourth year in a row. She is the first golfer and first Banana Slug in any sport to be named Scholar All-American in each of her four years. Named 2023 First Team All-Conference in the American Southwest, Mendoza is a 2023 CSC Academic All District selection and won SAAC Slug of the Year while serving as a Sports Medicine Intern.
A junior Human Bio major, Paracuelles is on pace to match Mendoza as she earned her third-consecutive WGCA Scholar All American honor. The junior was also named both 2023 CSC Academic All District and First Team All-Conference. Paracuelles finished 6th at the Conference Championship in April, becoming the first-ever Banana Slug with three consecutive Top Ten finishes since UC Santa Cruz joined the Conference.
Selection for WGCA Scholar All American honors is one of the toughest in all collegiate sports. To be selected, a student-athlete must have an overall cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50, be on the team's roster the entire season, and play in 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year through the conference championship.
