UC Santa Cruz had their long-awaited home opener, falling 7-2 to Division II Dominican University Saturday at the Rachel Carson College courts.
The Banana Slugs (5-6) took a doubles match at No.3 when
Meghana Damojipurapu and
Tanner Rowland won 8-2 for the pair's fourth win of the season.
The Penguins however won the first three singles matches in straight sets, taking the match. UC Santa Cruz continued to play hard.
Damojipurapu forced a third set at No. 3 singles, and
Natalie Sprenger won a tiebreaker first set before winning UC Santa Cruz a point at No. 2. It was Sprenger's eighth win in a row this Spring.
The Banana Slugs next go on another Los Angeles roadtrip this weekend, beginning with a matchup at third-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday.
