UC Santa Cruz opened their Spring season with an entertaining 5-4 home win over Menlo College on Sunday afternoon.
The Banana Slugs opened with a 3-0 sweep in doubles, topped with
Andrew Tjoa and
Lucas Chen winning 8-7 at No. 1.
However, Menlo's seasoned International student-athletes captured the first two singles matches.
Sam Hall won at No. 3 singles in a tie-breaker to make it 4-2. However, the Oaks took the next two singles matches to tie the overall dual at 4-4.
The dual match came down to
Praneet Varade at No. 6 singles, but he defeated the Oaks' Erkin Tootoonchi 6-2, 6-0 to give UC Santa Cruz the win.Â
The Banana Slugs take a three-match roadtrip next weekend, beginning Friday the 17th at 16th-ranked Caltech.
