At the C2C Invitational, UC Santa Cruz Women's Volleyball finished with two losses Saturday in the West Field House.

The team lost their first match against Christopher Newport 1-3 (25-16, 25-14, 22-25, 18-25) and their second match to Mary Washington 2-3 (25-21, 26-24, 15-25, 18-25, 10-15).

Match One
The Banana Slugs played Christopher Newport for their first match on Saturday.
Claudia Moeller had a beautiful kill starting off the game strong. Moeller was outstanding on the court, and had a block making the score 8-7. In the first set,
Saku Yoshioka got two service aces to make the score 13-10. The set ended with another kill by Moeller making the score 25-16. However, the second set did not end in the Banana Slugs' favor and ended with a score of 25-14.

In the third set, Moeller once again started the set strong with another kill making the score 1-0.
Drew Bryant then proceeded to make a strong impact in this game, with a kill that helped the Banana Slugs tie the score at 3-3. Bryant and the collaboration of
Emily Pasion had an amazing save that made the score 14-14.
Kelly Ann Greene also had an outstanding game and had a kill that made the score 15-15. Although it was a close set, unfortunately, the Banana Slugs lost the 3rd set 25-22. before the 4th set ended with Christopher Newport winning 25-18.

Peyton Tazelaar had the most points and kills of the game with 12 kills and 12 points.
Ashley Magley had 9 kills, and Moeller had 8 kills. Pasion had the team-high in digs with 14.

Match Two
The next match UCSC women's volleyball played was against nationally-ranked Mary Washington. The Banana Slugs started the first set strong, with 3 consecutive points scored by an
Ashley Magley kill and two service aces from
Sydney May. However, Mary Washington came back with intensity and made it close with the final score being 25-21 after a great kill by
Peyton Tazelaar to finish the first set. The second set was an intense and very close match. The Banana Slugs continued to excel with high intensity and finished the set with a kill from
Kate Lau with the final score of 26-24.

For the 3rd set, Mary Washington got the first point on the scoreboard, then continued to win points from consecutive kills. From there, the Eagles were in the lead for the rest of the set. The 4th set started off with kills from
Kelly Ann Greene and
Sydney Ahrendt making the score 2-0. It is a very close set and both teams played fiercely, but unfortunately, the Eagles won the 4th set 18-25.

The 5th set is the final one for this competitive match, with lots of blocks, kills, and saves from the Slugs. They did an outstanding job from the start. Yet, the Eagles won the final set 10-15.

Kate Lau had a team-high nine kills, while Tazelaar and Ahrendt each had six. Pasion had a team-high with 25 digs.
 The Banana Slugs will be playing Christopher Newport and Mary Washington again on Sunday.
