UC Santa Cruz Women's Volleyball finished the C2C Invitational this Sunday in the West Field House. The team had rematches against Christopher Newport and Mary Washington.
In the first match at 10:00 AM against Christopher Newport University, the Captains won the match 3-2 (25-23, 25-23, 14-25, 20-25, 8-15). The second match of the day for the Banana Slugs was against the University of Mary Washington, which ended with Mary Washington winning 3-0 (9-25, 18-25, 21-25).

Match One
The Banana Slugs started strong in the first set with a kill from
Sydney Ahrendt. It was a close set that had the lead go back and forth throughout. Yet the Banana Slugs won this set 25-23 with a beautiful kill from
Peyton Tazelaar. In another close set with the Banana Slugs in the lead the majority of the time,
Kate Lau had a beautiful kill that ended the second set with a score of 25-23.

The third set started with the Captains gaining an early 6-2 advantage. The Captains began to pull away, but
Vanessa Ojeikere had a beautiful block that kept the Banana Slugs close at 15-9. The Captains would finish the set on a 10-5 run however and won the third set 25-14.

In the fourth set, the Captains held the Banana Slugs at arms' length and won the fourth set 25-20 to tie the match at 2-2. The fifth and final set started with an 8-2 run by the Captains, who won the fifth set 15-8.

Ashley Magley had the team high in kills with 12 while Ahrendt had 10.
Michaela Augustine had 20 assists. Lau got the team high in digs with a career-high 20, while
Emily Pasion had 18.

Match TwoÂ
The first set was a rough set for the Banana Slugs. The set started with a kill from
Drew Bryant 1-0. However, the Eagles dominated the first set and won 25-9. The second set started strong for the Banana Slugs as they led 2-0 after a service ace by
Michaela Augustine. The Eagles were able totally however and won the second set 25-18.

In the third set, the Banana Slugs started the set on a 3-1 run. The Eagles rallied, but the Banana Slugs stayed in the set with a block from
Sydney Ahrendt and
Kelly Ann Greene to make the score 20-12 in favor of the Eagles. Back-to-back plays by
Vanessa Ojeikere kept the Banana Slugs in the set, but they eventually fell 25-21.

Ahrendt had six kills. Augustine had 11 assists and Ponzo had seven assists. Pasion had a team-high in digs with 12.
UC Santa Cruz's next match will be an exhibition against College of San Mateo on October 14th in the West Field House.
