WHITTIER- UC Santa Cruz Women's Soccer finished Sunday's match at Whittier College with a win of 2-1.
It was a great first half for the Banana Slugs. There were many shots on the goal from
Amaya Espardinez,
Camille Anneet,
Chelyn Ackerman, and
Emily De Los Santos. Whittier kept the Banana Slugs off the scoreboard until
Tatiana Fernandez sent a through ball into space for Anneet to cross from the left to Espardinez who scored the first goal for the Banana Slugs (1-0, 19:02). Then,
Kristi Truong sent a long ball into the air over defenders right in place for
Sydney Boyd to first touch the ball into the goal, making the score 2-0 (30:55). Unfortunately, a few minutes later Whittier was able to make a goal (2-1, 35:57) to be within one at halftime.
The second half was competitive and high intensity for the Banana Slugs. There was great possession and they were first to the ball. The Banana Slugs were continuing to kick those shots into place, yet were being saved by Whittier's keeper. The half ended with a corner kick from Whittier that was almost a goal. However, there was great defense from the Banana Slugs and a great save by
Amelia Brown ensuring that a goal would not come in to save the victory. The second half ended with UC Santa Cruz winning 2-1 after a 23-2 shot advantage.
UC Santa Cruz's next match will be in Virginia against Sweet Briar College on Monday, October 30th at 4:00 PM (PST).
