Anneet's brace helps Banana Slugs defeat Redlands

REDLANDS- UC Santa Cruz Women's Soccer finished today's match against the University of Redlands with a 4-1 win.

The first half started with great possession from the Banana Slugs. A beautiful play with Tatiana Fernandez who sent a through ball into space and Amaya Espardinez ran for the ball to have a 1-v-1 with the keeper. Espardinez then makes a move and scores (1-0, 14:15). The Banana Slugs are sending those shots through but the Redlands keeper continue to block until Camille Anneet stole the ball from a defender in the back, and then made a fantastic shot in the last couple minutes of the half (2-0, 42:57). Redlands had many opportunities, but couldn't finish their shots with great defending from the Banana Slugs.

The second half started right away with shots on goal from Anneet, Sydney Boyd, Chelyn Ackerman, Kathleen Byambasuren, and more. Then at 73:35, Susanaitzel Juarez-Mancera shoots from a yard away,  which is saved by the keeper until the ball comes back to Juarez-Mancera and finishes the shot, getting a goal in making the score 3-0. Less than two minutes after, Anneet has another opportunity and runs down the line with the ball with a defender on them, crosses it into the goal making the score 4-0 (75:21). In the last couple minutes of the game, Redlands got a consolation goal making the final score of the match 4-1 (88:19).

The Banana Slugs finished with a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. It was their first win at Redlands in their last six tries. UC Santa Cruz's next match will be at Whittier College on Sunday October 22nd, at 3:00 PM.
